Vitamin C & Zinc — a practical guide for Kenyan lifestyles.
Two of the most-searched supplements in Kenya, for good reason. Vitamin C and Zinc quietly underpin immunity, skin repair, wound healing, and the body's stress response. Here is how we recommend combining them — plus the exact Lifely-approved bottles.
1. Why the combination works
Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant that helps regenerate other antioxidants in the body and supports collagen synthesis, iron absorption and healthy immune cell function. Zinc is a trace mineral required by over 300 enzymes — including the ones that let your immune cells multiply and your skin heal. Taken together, they cover both the antioxidant and the structural side of daily resilience.
2. How much, and when
- Vitamin C: 500–1000 mg per day for adults. Split into two doses (morning + afternoon) for steadier blood levels.
- Zinc: 15–25 mg per day, ideally with a small meal.
- Timing: Take together in the morning. If nausea occurs, take zinc after lunch instead.
- Avoid pairing with: High-dose iron or calcium supplements at the same hour — they compete for absorption.
3. The Lifely-approved stack
Every bottle on the Lifely shelf is sourced from Holland & Barrett, Igennus, Time Health or Wellbeing Nutrition — no grey market, no re-boxing. Here are the daily combinations we recommend to our Nairobi clients.
Frequently asked
- Can I take Vitamin C and Zinc together every day?
- Yes. For most healthy adults, a daily combination of 500–1000 mg Vitamin C and 15–25 mg Zinc is safe and well tolerated. Take with food to reduce the chance of nausea, and split the Vitamin C dose across the day for steadier absorption.
- When should I take Zinc for best absorption?
- Zinc absorbs best on an empty stomach, but many people (including us) recommend taking it with a small meal to avoid stomach upset. Avoid taking it at the same time as high-calcium or high-iron meals, which compete for absorption.
- How long before I feel a benefit for immunity?
- For daily immune support, give the combination 2–3 weeks of consistent use. If you're using Zinc lozenges at the onset of a cold, start within 24 hours of first symptoms for the clearest benefit on duration.
- Are there people who should avoid Zinc?
- Long-term high-dose Zinc (>40 mg/day) can deplete copper. If you're pregnant, on antibiotics, or managing a chronic condition, speak to your clinician before starting a new supplement stack.
